Whats it All About

To celebrate the growing inclusion of women in Pittsburgh’s cycling community, 16 bike riding ladies are giving back in celebration and thanks. Cycling could be a male dominated and intimidating sport for females, but our collection of burgh-based women cyclists shows this is a trend of the past. To showcase our personalities, strengths, cute faces, and of course bikes, the 2011 Pittsburgh Babes on Bikes Calendar will feature a bike riding babe or two every month in different Pittsburgh locations. Our goal is to aid in the continued empowerment of women in our city. We will donate all proceeds raised to the Women’s Center and Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh.
Pittsburgh is lucky to have not only such a diverse cycling community, but also a united cycling community. As ladies, we’re especially grateful to have such a strong female presence. To celebrate and highlight everyone’s unique styles in a fun and empowering way, 16 burgh-based lady cyclists are coming together to create The 2011 Pittsburgh Babes on Bikes Calendar. Each month presents a lady or two showcasing their personalities, strengths, interests, cute faces, and of course, bicycles! Every photo is from a different Pittsburgh setting, which creates an all encompassing, empowering calendar celebrating cycling and our Pittsburgh community.
Although not meant to be sexually objectifying, due to space limits this calendar presents only female-bodied cyclists. There are many babes of all sexes in Pittsburgh, but part of our goal was to celebrate the strong ladies of Pittsburgh who ride in what has historically been a male-dominated sport. The best way to do this seemed to be through a female-centric calendar. Our hope is that with the success of this project, we can branch out into more inclusive calendars or other community showcases in the future!
Perhaps most importantly, in thanks and celebration of our community, bikes, and womanhood, all of the proceeds raised by the calendar will be donated directly to Women’s Center and Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh.
